The Project

RK&K prepared the final design for replacement of the single-span Gordon Street Bridge over Jordan Creek for the City of Allentown, PA under an agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

The existing 84-foot span bridge is being replaced with a 120-foot span bridge supported on integral abutments behind the existing abutments. Vehicular traffic was detoured, but construction was still staged to maintain pedestrian traffic.

The project had substantial utility relocation and coordination with R.J. Corman Railroad. A Joint Permit Application was required due to 4(f) resource impacts and storm sewer relocations that impacted the stream and flood plain.

The bridge opened to traffic on Sept. 10, 2021. Construction let in December 2019.
