RK&K was recently honored with the Infrastructure Project of the Year Award for Projects under $25 Million from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) for reconstruction work on Florida Avenue and 9th Street in Washington, D.C.
RK&K served as Construction Manager on this year-long, $8.5 million project for the District Department of Transportation.
The project team’s work will improve vehicular and pedestrian safety by reconstructing the 9th St. NW, and Florida Avenue NW/Sherman Avenue NW from T St. NW to Barry Place NW and constructing improvements to streetscape elements including sidewalks, ramps, curb and gutter, road construction, mill and overlay, pavement markings, landscaping, traffic signal modifications, and streetlighting.
Throughout the project, RK&K worked closely with all involved stakeholders and provided the prescribed day-to-day services, resolving field issues as they arose and delivering the project on time and under budget. The team also provided engineering and geotechnical support to the client and led a comprehensive Public Outreach Plan to inform the affected community about ongoing work.
“RK&K’s team along with the subconsultants partnered well with the contractor and all the stakeholders, working together to deliver a successful project to DDOT that was proudly completed under budget,” said Construction Manager Sam Lalego, PE, CCM.
CMAA’s Project Achievement Awards were created to recognize and celebrate creative and innovative construction projects around the world.
