RK&K is serving as engineer of record for all infrastructure improvements and will provide construction administration and inspection services in partnership with Riverfront Development Corporation (RDC) for Riverfront East, a $100 million, 86.3-acre mixed-use development in Wilmington, DE along the Christina River.
RDC recently unveiled their plans, vision, and timeline for Riverfront East, which will offer diverse resources, public space parks, and services with 1.9 million square feet for office space, 357,000 square feet for retail, and 4.7 million square feet for 4,291 residential units.
“There are few better ways to celebrate Delaware’s strength, resilience, and bright future ahead than by focusing on the hope and promise of the Riverfront East vision.” – John Carney, Delaware Governor
“We’re excited to move full speed ahead on this mission—one engineered to empower personal and economic growth, fulfillment, and achievement for present communities, while building the strong, sustainable foundations of continued progress for future generations,” RDC executive director Megan Mcglinchey during the recent unveiling event.
RK&K staff design infrastructure improvements including roadway, bicycle facilities, transit facilities, riverwalk, structures (retaining walls and viewing vistas), stormwater management, traffic analysis and design, surveys, utility coordination and design, and more. Our team also helped develop the project’s masterplan, preparing cost estimates for all infrastructure improvements.
The first phase of Riverfront East will begin later this year. This phase includes public infrastructure projects to make the area more accessible and safer for auto, pedestrian, and bike traffic, as well as mass transit. Construction will include stormwater management, roadways and parking areas, a riverwalk, and a central green. RDC anticipates completing phase one by the end of 2023.
The Riverfront East project is possible thanks to the collaboration efforts of RDC, the City of Wilmington, State of Delaware, Delaware Department of Transportation, and many more partners.
“Throughout this past year, we’ve seen what Delawareans can do when we come together around a common cause. We’re beating this pandemic because we are working together and believe Delaware will come out of this crisis stronger than ever before,” said Delaware Governor John Carney during unveiling of the project. “There are few better ways to celebrate Delaware’s strength, resilience, and bright future ahead than by focusing on the hope and promise of the Riverfront East vision.”
