RK&K’s Director of Planning Karen Kahl PE, PTOE was named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record. This honor recognizes outstanding achievements by women demonstrated through their professional accomplishments, community leadership, and mentoring.
In the application for this award, Karen is described as an industry leader in transportation and planning with almost 30 years of experience. It discusses how she currently leads a team of 30 people and supports efforts across the firm without losing focus on ensuring effective transportation in Maryland while being a strong mentor to her staff and helping build the next generation of leaders.
Karen’s accomplishments also include co-founding RK&K’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Council, decades of community service with organizations like the Tyanna Barre O’Brien Breast Cancer Foundation, creating and leading fundraising efforts for the Baltimore Chapter of WTS, leading and coordinating clothing drives for the Baltimore International Refugee Committee’s refugee center, and more!
With all this, Karen has continued delivering exceptional service to RK&K’s clients on projects like the I-495 & I-270 Managed Lanes Study and MDTA’s Chesapeake Bay Crossing: Tier 1 NEPA Study.
“When I look back over the past 25+ years, I realize I spent time doing the things that interested me based on my life experiences. I always wanted to be thoroughly engaged and make a difference in everything I did, whether that was at work, in volunteer activities, or with family/friends,” said Karen about this honor.
