We are pleased to welcome Randall Mungo, P.E., to RK&K. In his role as Manager, Water Resources, Randall’s experience and expertise enhances the firm’s services to our South Carolina clients and will assist as we grow of our water resources practice throughout the Palmetto State.
Looking back at his start in the industry, Randall recalled, “My father was a contractor, and I wanted to go into structural engineering. I started at the University of South Carolina in engineering and realized that Structures was not the perfect fit. Water Resources interested me and became my emphasis in college.”
Randall recently retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation with more than 30 years of experience in hydraulic design engineering. As a registered professional engineer, with a BS in Civil Engineering for the University of South Carolina, Randall began his career as an entry level engineer and worked his way up to the Hydraulic Design Support Engineer for SCDOT. During this time, he served as a member of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Technical Committee of Hydrology and Hydraulics.
When asked “why RK&K?” Randall said, “I met with several firms that are well established in South Carolina. RK&K has just opened an office in Columbia thus allowing me to get in on the ground floor in the office and work with a young group of engineers. RK&K has a more personal touch with their employees in which you don’t feel like just another person. Chris Jordan was also instrumental as we have known each other since our time at SCDOT. Also, Tina Swiezy and I have worked together as well. I felt a level of comfort. Bottom line – it just felt right.”
Randall is married to his wife, Stephanie, and they have two daughters. In his spare time, he volunteers with the Shriners Hospitals for Children. He currently serves as the President of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, which is the longest running high school all-star football game in the nation.
