Cyclists & Pedestrians Each Week

The Project

RK&K engineers and environmental scientists designed and permitted 4 miles of multi-use trail for DDOT to connect a 60-mile trail network for commuter and recreation use.

Over 2,300 trees were inventoried in coordination with the National Park Service, and environmental permits were authorized by several MD, DC and federal agencies. Impacts to tidal and nontidal wetlands, waters of the US, and trees were minimized with extensive bridging and careful design layout.

Wetland restoration and forest mitigation regulatory coordination for unavoidable impacts was performed by RK&K and constructed on-site. Over 4,000 cyclists and pedestrians use the trail each week.

“I’m proud of the way our team collaborated across disciplines to provide environmentally sensitive and cost-effective design solutions that fit within the landscape context of the corridor.”
