Two RK&K projects were recognized last week by the American Council of Engineering Companies/Maryland (ACEC/MD) with Engineering Excellence and Honors Awards.
Engineering Excellence Award: Patapsco Wastewater Treatment Plant

RK&K took home the Engineering Excellence Award for our work as prime consultant to the City of Baltimore, MD for its enhanced nutrient removal (ENR) facility project at the 81-mg Patapsco Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). RK&K served the City on all phases of the project including design, bidding, construction, and commissioning.
Our team also managed and coordinated a large team of subconsultants throughout the entire project. RK&K’s staff engineered the ENR system layout, treatment process design, hydraulics, Tertiary Pump Station and denitrification filters, process mechanical systems, and process control system, and performed cost estimating along while coordinating the team’s construction administration activities.
Honor Award: Chesapeake Bay Bridge AET Conversion

The second project recognized was the Chesapeake Bay Bridge AET Conversion project for Maryland Transportation Authority, which received an Honor Award. RK&K served as lead designer for plans converting the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge toll plaza to all electronic tolling.
In addition to overall management of the project and project team, RK&K was responsible for traffic analysis, environmental analysis and NEPA documentation, geotechnical analysis, roadway design, signing and marking design, ITS design, maintenance of traffic design, stormwater management design, erosion and sediment control design, drainage design, natural resources investigations, utility design, and more.
Each year ACEC/MD’s Engineering Excellence Awards competition recognizes engineering firms for projects “demonstrating a high degree of innovation, achievement, and value.” RK&K is proud to be a member firm of ACEC/MD.
